@mattdorsey Want half as many overdoses? Decriminalize drugs, with evidence showing intensification of law enforcement, doubles the frequency of overdoses. https://t.co/qXjEoFE3ve
@mattdorsey Our historically excessive #PoliceState reimplementing it's abysmally failed counterproductive #WarOnDrugs isn't progress at all, and the results are the local historic peak of overdoses. It's the #WarOnDrugs, not the drugs themselves lethally
Iron Law of Prohibition also tells us that the harder the Enforcement, the harder the drug evolves to. Here the study shows more overdoses occurred in the days following drug seizures/busts/arrests. https://t.co/I5XEX9lRYN https://t.co/2VO0Ljq1W2
@SenSherrodBrown It's not even a debate. The science is very clear. What you're doing is causing deaths without addressing the root of the problem. People need to know what is in the drugs they are consuming. https://t.co/5VT9RhIKW7
@stephenHRNRP How about the evidence that drug seizures may actually increase fatal overdose rates — the outcome these efforts are purportedly trying to reduce. https://t.co/5Aqc3zuJdT

@AaronPeskin That kills people when there is not legal drug stores and bars for people to use and sellers are arrested. It makes the drug supply more volatile. The demand for drugs never stops. Someone will always fill the supply void. https://t.co/5VT9RhJ
@KTVU How many people do you think the cops killed by confiscating those? My guess is 200 over the span of a couple weeks. The science says some will die, because there are no legal drug stores, as the cops shut them down, making people buy from trafficker
@upgradeandthen @StevensonLDN Evidence contradicts much of what you've speculated here "Within 7, 14, and 21 days, opioid-related law enforcement drug seizures were significantly associated with increased spatiotemporal clustering of overdoses within radii

Most significant drug seizures and arrests work to destabilize the existing distribution networks, spawning new relationships and increasing the risk of violent reprisals and retaliations within and across the illicit market.

The study by @BrandondelPozo @BRaySociologist @veruka2 et al, provides quantitative evidence that police opioid seizures can cost lives and that police drug enforcement is significantly, spatiotemporally associated with increases in opioid overdose death.
@UKLEAP @CormacJOKeeffe The larger story probably is that it's known that drug seizures cause fatal overdoses. The governments are choosing to continue a policy that causes deaths. That needs to be acknowledged by them, and they should be held accountable
@BuxtonJulia @InvisibleJim1 Also, drug seizures have no long-term impact on the availability and use of drugs. The original study showing seizures increase overdoses is here: https://t.co/ysJcSpnE2Q
